Smudging your Bed for the Best Sleep Ever

A great way to get the best quality of sleep is to smudge your bed before going to sleep.

Smudging is the science of cleaning the energies on a physical object so that it cooperates with your own body’s energies instead of fighting them. You can smudge your clothes when getting dressed in the morning, so your clothes “feel better” when you put them on, they feel like an extension of your own body rather than an impediment or a coating/add-on to it. Smudge your shoes so they aid your feet in doing everything they need to do during the day: running, walking, dancing, jumping, stepping on awkward stones without twisting an ankle.

Smudging works especially well after replacing your sheets with clean ones because it smooths out the chaotic energies of the sheets having tumbled around in a washer and then a dryer. If you air-dry your sheets, congratulations; they need less smudging.  But either way, you might sleep better if you give them a quick smudge before going to sleep tonight.

How to Smudge

There are different ways to do smudging. Here is my technique – it costs nothing, requires nothing but your own body, and takes 5 to 10 minutes at the most.

Pull the sheets back part way like you’re getting into bed. Wipe your forearms and hands in big arcs, all over the surfaces of the bed that will touch your body when you sleep, in all the areas. Wipe your arms and hands around the upper part of your bed, the middle part, and sweep your arms between the sheets where your legs and feet will go – this will make your feet and legs feel so cozy when you go to sleep tonight! Sweep your arms under your pillows, and take each pillow in your hands and smudge the front, back, and all 4 edges of the pillow with your hands.

Wipe your hands and forearms on your headboard too, or on the wall at the head of your bed if there is one. Be sure to also smudge the part of your sheets that you pulled back across the bed – basically any material that could touch you when you are sleeping.

You can move quickly, you don’t have to repeat it over and over on a single spot – just sweep once or twice on an area and move on.

Try to hold a happy-fullness in your heart when you do this. I believe it is heart energy that you’re imbuing into the sheets and pillows, and it will feel so cozy and wonderful when you go to sleep now! If you have a sleep partner, smudge their side of the bed too, they will sleep better with less nightmares and twitches during the night. You’ll be surprised.

How Often?

Smudging like this lasts about a week, after which it needs to be done again. You could do it sooner if you wanted to, like every 4-5 days. Experiment and see. You should probably wash your sheets once a week anyway, putting fresh ones on your bed and smudging them as described. I don’t think we’ve ever washed the comforter on our bed, but I smudge the top edges of it where it might touch our faces, and that seems to be enough.

Smudging with Incense, Oils

Yes you can use incense for smudging, or oils; but in my opinion those things are not needed. Especially since they are “scarce resources” in the physical plane, things you can run out of (must go to the store), and must pay for (might be too expensive for you at some point in your life).

The sweeping technique of smudging with your hands and arms costs nothing and is always available. It takes very little time to do. Nobody has to see you do it.

Try smudging your bed tonight and see if it works for you!

Science of Smudging

What kind of energy is it that we are clearing, when we smudge?

Why does it feel like it’s still attached to my arms and hands, when I’m done?

How do I clear the energies off my arms and hands?  I tried washing with soap and water, and shaking them off in another part of the room, nothing seems to help except just ignoring it – I don’t feel it after time has passed.  Maybe my body absorbed/converted the energy somehow?

Why does it work?

Can anybody do smudging?

Does everybody benefit from smudging even if they don’t believe in it? I think they do. My partner didn’t believe it until I did it a few times, now we both know it helps.  It cut down on nightmares and “twitching” dramatically for us.

Stuck Trying to Wake Up

Have you ever gotten stuck trying to wake up? It’s the weirdest feeling – you are back in your body, sort of, but your body feels like it is infinitely heavy; you can’t lift your arms or your head; if you try really hard you can barely flip open your eyelids for a moment to see the image of your room, and you really are seeing your room, but you can’t get up.  You feel trapped and a little scared!

In that state the dream-world can weave in images you may not like, such as seeing a stranger walking into the room, right up to you, talking to you or about you, and leaving. You can’t do anything about it; your family talking about you in the distance; people stomping around in the room; the wall pattern keeps changing; things like that.

It can be really scary.

How To Wake Up

The way to get out of it is:  relax.  Let go.  Don’t try to stay there, don’t try to wake up.  Let go and return to nothingness, just fall back asleep again.  After a few minutes try to wake up again, but slowly this time, not quickly.

If it happens again, you didn’t wait long enough.  Repeat – just float away, back to silence – live there for a bit, understand that you’re safe, it’s OK.  Then try to wake up again.

After 1 or 2 tries you will wake up. The longer you try to hold on and struggle, the longer it will take. Don’t scare yourself this way. I’ve done that, it’s not fun.

Helping Someone Else Wake Up

If you sleep in the same bed with someone and you realize they are experiencing this, you can help them. You might hear them try to talk, and they can hardly say a word; their eyelids flutter; they may seem scared.

Snap your fingers maybe 6-8 inches above their head or face and say “wake up” – don’t do it shockingly, but solidly and certainly, like a command at normal volume:  Wake Up.  Then be silent; don’t say anything else.

If you can connect with them emotionally when you do this, like feeling a desire to talk to them, that’s even better. If you can also feel a heart-energy-connection or stomach-energy (solar-plexus) connection with them, that will help them hear you. In 4-5 seconds they will wake up. If they don’t, try it a second time.  If they don’t wake up then, you can tell them things like: “Go back to sleep.  You are safe.  I will protect you.  Just let go now.”  When they quiet down, just let them sleep.

The goal is to not shock them awake. It may take some practice to learn what works best for them.

After trying this, did it work for you?  What is your experience?

How come nobody teaches this stuff in school?

What is the right age for people to first learn about techniques like this?

How To Tell When You’re Dreaming

One of the most fun things to do when sleeping and dreaming, and certainly a great accomplishment if you’ve never done it before, is to be aware that you’re dreaming in the middle of your dream.  It’s harder than it sounds because your ordinary mind is not awake during this time, so “crazy stuff” makes sense in the dream world that you would never believe while awake in our physical world.

If you could only realize you’re dreaming in your dream, you could stop the giant spider from coming towards you and scaring you. You could stop the bad guys from chasing you, since they always seem to know where you’re hiding. You could regain control over the car you’re driving that seems to want to keep going even though you jam on the break with all your strength of both feet.

If you were awake in your dream, you could change things – like replacing all the hand guns with flowers; wouldn’t it look silly to see a bad guy pointing a flower at you? Then you could give the ring leader a cute pink tutu to wear around his waist, like a ballet dancer.  He’d probably run away immediately from embarrassment. You could jump directly to the classroom you’re supposed to be in for that final exam, but are having trouble finding – or, decide that you hate this campus and completely replace it with a different location and scenery and friends you like better! You could fly up, up and away; get away from this stupid dream place, because you’re done here. You get to decide, you’re in full control. You’re in the greatest virtual reality simulation in the world.

A lot of people have written about being in control of your dreams while dreaming. Some people call it “lucid dreaming”. But I haven’t seen very much useful advice on how to do it more frequently. I’m going to tell you some tricks for doing this more and more in your dream-life, if you want to.

The People And Creatures Aren’t Real

The dream world is fascinating. You can see all your friends and family there, famous people you’ve always wanted to meet – and none of it is real. They are all constructions from your own mind, usually your subconscious mind.  They come from memories of your current life. Sometimes you see creatures, or really anything you could imagine. They come from worries and fears that you have, from issues you haven’t dealt with, or experiences you wish had gone a different way. Things you’re still rehashing inside of you, you get to re-live and change, if you want to, in the dream-world.

It’s important to realize that these beings in your dream aren’t real. Not at all. You can say anything to them, do anything to them, and it doesn’t really hurt the actual person or creature. Just because you’re dreaming of your brother or sister, for example, doesn’t mean they are dreaming of you at the same time, in the same dream – not at all. Your real family and friends all have their own fears/worries/concerns to dream about, which may involve you, or others; you never know. Their dreams are completely separate from yours. This is a good thing, it means you have a certain freedom you wouldn’t otherwise have – no need to be polite or follow anybody else’s rules in your dream world.

Sometimes a dream can be about something you’re afraid of – a fear you have. What are you afraid of? Spiders? Snakes? Being shot? Dying? The dream-world can offer all of these to you, and more, to terrify you while you’re sleeping. We call these nightmares, of course. But here’s the thing:

Nothing in this dream world can actually hurt you.

In fact, none of it can even touch you!  Not even a little bit!  Not even a giant monster 20 stories tall!  Not even the bullets from the criminal’s gun that he just shot at you, that you felt touching your skin!  None of it can touch you without your permission – and even if it does, it cannot hurt you at all.

So what we want, then, is to be aware that we’re dreaming, to reject anything touching us, so we can stand tall and still if we want, against all odds, “facing” our fears head on, and be victorious over them this way.  We want to be in control of this dream world, so that when it displays things we don’t like, we can switch it out with something we do like – immediately. We don’t want to put up with bullshit in this dream world.

Beings that Animate your Dream People

There are beings that live in the dream world full time, that enjoy giving life to the people and creatures you create there. If you create a monster, one can embodies the monster and chase you around, roaring or breathing fire or stomping around, however your construction operates; because that’s what your subconscious mind wants to experience. If you are dreaming about the man or woman you deeply love, this creature will embody them, and they will say and do and express just what you most wanted to see and feel and hear from that dream-person.

These creatures are neither bad nor good; they don’t want to hurt you, they just want to play with you. Think of them as little imps, they don’t have an appearance themselves, but they are conscious, and are attracted to the dream you created. They can give just enough realistic “life” to a construction in the dream world that it can really scare you, if it’s scary, or really seem like your friend or family member, if that’s who you’ve constructed. They give the answer you expect, when you ask them questions, because the creature listens to your thoughts and feelings, and expresses them through the construction they’ve embodied in your dream.

I know this is true because I’ve done things to drive them away, and it’s funny to see what happens then – it’s not what I expected.

One time I had a “friend” in the physical world who was very annoying, would frequently disagree with me and tell me something different, or encourage us to go to a different restaurant for lunch than I wanted to go to, would carelessly ignore my expressed opinion of foods I am allergic to, and so forth. I struggled to get along with this person in my physical life. So one night I had a dream about them, and as usual, they were disagreeing with a very basic thing I just said, and it pissed me off.

I decided to yell at this person, once and for all!  I took a deep breath with anger, and before I could say the first words, I witnessed the following thing happen:

  • My dream-friend’s eyes became vacant
  • His head slumped down a little, kind of like it was lifeless
  • He was still standing upright, but unmoving and lifeless

When I shouted all the words I wanted to say, I got up real close to his face, and shouted at him from 2 inches away – he didn’t flinch at all. Didn’t move one bit, didn’t turn away or towards me, just stood there like a mannequin with those lifeless eyes. I yelled and yelled until I felt better. I stopped because I felt a little bit bad now for yelling at a friend. And then I was done with the dream, my anger was kicking me out of the dream world, and I woke up.

That certainly was interesting!  You can drive away the little spirits that embody the “creatures” if you want to, with your powerful emotions.  You could do that to the raging dinosaur that’s trying to stomp on you, or the aliens that are approaching you with dangerous stabby metal tools, or the giant 3-foot black spider that chases you as fast as you can run.  Just turn around and yell at them with 100% anger or any other powerful emotion.  Boom, it’s over.

I think the little creature that can embody dream land constructions like that don’t enjoy powerful negative emotions like that. They flee from it, they’d rather be someplace else, some place they can play and interact with the visitors, the dreamers there.

Actually there are better and more subtle ways to take control of the situation rather than getting angry and yelling.  I’m just saying this technique does work.

Preparing for the Dream World

The first step is to sense that you might be dreaming, when you are actually dreaming. This takes a lot of practice.  Some things I would suggest:

  1. Consciously relax your body, calm your emotions, and tell your mind to be quiet. This takes a lot of practice, don’t beat yourself up if you can’t do it right away – just keep trying without judgment. Tell your body that it is completely safe, it’s OK to leave now, you’ll be back in the morning.
  2. Before going to sleep, think to yourself – “I am going to sleep now. The next things I see are all dreams, and aren’t real at all. I will remember this.”
  3. Get a note book and a pencil or pen, and leave it beside your bed. I use a full-size spiral notebook. Leave it open to a blank page, so you can immediately start writing. When you wake up in the middle of the night and remember a dream, write it down as best you can. The same in the morning. This helps you reinforce the connection between your sleeping world and your physical/awake world.

What To Avoid

There are some things that interfere with being aware in the dream-world, and being in control of your dreams – including:

  1. Having sex before going to sleep – it uses a lot of energy that you could have used in the dream world. Avoid sex for 4-6 hours before sleep, if you want to control your dream world that night.
  2. Eating too much for dinner, especially too much red meat, or eating dinner too late (too close to bedtime).
  3. Drinking too much alcohol – if you drink so much that you’re seeing double, or if you feel sick to your stomach in the middle of the night, that is too much. Some alcohol is completely fine and will not interfere with your activities in the dream world.
  4. Taking certain drugs constantly, especially illegal drugs. Of course you should take your prescription drugs – your doctor knows better than I do.  But some drugs use up the energy that enables you to wake up and take control of the dream world. Some drugs can also force you into the lower depths of the dream world, in some way I don’t fully understand yet – giving you more nightmares than most people have, for the rest of your life. I know somebody in that situation now, because they were a heavy drug-user in the past – I don’t recommend it.
  5. Having really strong emotions before bed, like yelling at a family member or getting into a fight with someone over the phone. Finding a way to forgive everyone in your life before going to bed at night is very helpful.
  6. Watching painful TV shows and movies, especially horror movies. These things fill your subconscious with terrible images and a feeling of being out-of-control that pollutes you and causes you to lose control in the dream world. You’ll have to rehash it over and over in the dream world, waste all your time and energy with those horrific experiences, when you could have been doing something fun instead.  When given the chance to go to Disneyland, why would you choose instead to stay at home and hit your face repetitively with a claw hammer?
  7. Harmful Computer Games where you are having to attack and kill other human beings and creatures.  It pollutes your psyche, and takes away your ability (temporarily) to reach the higher levels.
  8. Harmful music that is shouting and has hurtful lyrics and discordant sounds. You have to be the judge of what music is good for you and what is not.
  9. Having strong smells in your sleeping room. I will go into detail in a future post. Strong smells can invoke nightmares and hold you down to the lower levels of the dream world, rather than letting you be free to do what you want there. Take a shower once a day at least. Pick up dirty clothes from your floor. Change your sheets at least every 2 weeks. Sometimes I burn a small amount of incense or put some drops of Peppermint or Eucalyptus oil in a warm cup of water near my bed, to clear the air.
  10. Having noises or other things that wake you up regularly or disturb you while you’re sleeping. You need to feel like you can escape to the dream world without being in danger, when you’re falling asleep. Some sounds are soothing, some are not – it depends on you. For example, some people are bothered by snoring, but I’m not, it just sounds relaxing and sleep-inducing to me.
  11. Some people are bothered by bright lights in the room; ever since those super-bright LEDs were invented, some electronic equipment comes with them, and it can be way too bright in the middle of the night.  Cover them up with a post-it note or piece of electrical tape.

My laptop was so annoying – it has a white LED that pulses bright, dim, bright, dim, every few seconds when it’s recharging.  Trying to go to sleep at night, it felt like I was being brainwashed. I had to cover it with a post-it note. That wasn’t the brightest thing in my room, however. The device that wins the award for “brightest light ever” in my bedroom is a 4-port HDMI hub I have attached to my HDTV – it has 4 blue LEDs that are so bright, it looks like a spotlight shooting up from behind my TV! It’s brighter than any night-light I’ve ever seen. One layer of post-it note did not help enough, believe it or not, I had to use two pieces – and I can still see which LED is lit (barely) during the daytime, so I can tell what it’s trying to indicate.

Please understand, I’m not telling you to always avoid the above list of things! Actually you should do all the things you want to in your life, any time you want to – you deserve to experience all that life has to offer. Please enjoy your life. Just understand that if you’re not entirely successful in controlling your dream-world that night, there may be reasons for it. You can choose what things you will do, and when, in your life, and you can set aside time to try different things in your life – you are in control now.

Realizing You Are Dreaming

When you’re starting to become aware in the dream-world, you will probably ask yourself, right in the middle of a dream: “am I dreaming right now?” It’s almost impossible to tell you’re dreaming while you’re there.  Then some activity happens in front of you and your focus wanders, and that’s the end of that.  Then you wake up and say, “darn it! Of course I was dreaming! I’m obviously wide awake now! I can feel it with certainty!” So how can you figure out that you’re dreaming, when you’re dreaming?  There’s a few tricks to it.

How to Tell You Are Dreaming

In the dream world, you really cannot tell that you’re dreaming just by how it feels.  It feels real to you when you’re there. Some ways to tell you’re dreaming:

  1. Pinch yourself to see if you’re dreaming.  Remember this old adage? Well, it really works! Try something: pinch your forearm right now with the thumb and finger of your other hand. It feels just the way you thought it would, didn’t it.  Your fingers only go in so far; you feel the sensation of touch; and that’s it.  Now, try to remember to do the same thing when you’re asleep.  Keep trying to remember just as you are going to sleep, and you will, eventually. The next time you’re dreaming and you say, “I wonder if this is a dream?” Pinch yourself , what you feel?  It’s a completely different feeling! To me it feels super spongey, like my arm is made of a sponge with no bones in it at all; and it feels electrical – I feel a powerful electrical pulse through my arm that’s being pinched, like a mini lightning bolt!  It doesn’t hurt, it just feels unmistakably noticeable. Not at all what I expected! If you try this, please tell me what you experience.
  2. If there’s people you know around you in the dream, try to ask one of them something calmly that would shock them, or something they wouldn’t know the answer to. For example, if you’re a software developer and your grandma is nearby, ask her why Dependency Injection is so important.  You might be surprised when she tells you the answer. But you have to ask something that you already know the answer to.  If they tell you something insightful, which you already know, you’re dreaming!  Your real grandma in the physical world couldn’t have known that!
  3. Ask the person near you a question they absolutely would know the answer to, but which you don’t! It’s funny to see what happens. I did this with my “dad” in a dream one time a long time ago. My dad was an electrical and audio engineer all his life, and I learned a lot from him about electronics. So I asked my dream-dad, “how do you tune an audio amplifier to fit the acoustics of the room it’s in?” I know my real dad knows the answer to that, but I have no idea. I’d really like to know, actually.  My dream dad looked at me – stared at me, as if trying to read me – my mind was blank, because I don’t know, and was waiting for a clear answer – and waiting, and waiting…!  About 5 long seconds went by, and when I didn’t have a good answer in mind for “dream-dad” to recite back to me, his eyes went dim and he slumped forward as if the game was over and he was just a piece of furniture now! I was so happy – I discovered I was dreaming, and I won the game I was playing!
  4. Think the following fact, over and over, before going to sleep:  If I have to ask whether I’m dreaming or not, then I’m dreaming!  Think about it – right now you are awake and you aren’t wondering if you’re dreaming or not.  You know 100% for a fact that you’re awake right now, don’t you.  So, any time from now on that you’re unsure about it, you must be dreaming!

I learned these tricks on my own just by trying stuff out when I was young.  When I was about 10 or 12 years old, I dreamed that I was in our old house (not the current house we lived in), and I was playing in the laundry room near my mom who was folding the laundry as she always did. Everything looked normal, it was very peaceful, just the way I liked to experience it in the real world. But I suspected I was dreaming, and I really wanted to know for sure, so I tested my mom.  I said: “Mom, I’m dreaming right now, and you aren’t real.”  I knew that in the real world my mom would freak out a little bit at me saying that; she would at the very least stop what she was doing and look straight at me to see if I was OK, maybe I had a fever.  But in this dream world she said: “that’s nice, dear,” in her perfect neutral mom-voice, and kept right on folding clothes!  Aha! I had my proof at last! That phrase, “that’s nice dear,” is something she often says to things I tell her, since I’m just a little kid, and adults tend to just put up with the obvious type of things you say when you’re a kid, because you don’t know any better.  (“Hey mom, there’s a spider web here!” “That’s nice dear.”) It fit right in with the type of reaction I would get from my mom – but was the completely wrong thing for her to say, based on what I just said!  I was calm when I spoke, so she was calm when she spoke – the dream world often works like that.  But I had said something, calmly, that would have really upset her in the real world!  Now I knew for sure – I really was dreaming! And I was aware of it, while dreaming, and the dream kept on going – and I knew I was dreaming. It was my first experience in knowing I was dreaming when I really was. It was awesome.

I Have Conquered my Dream World

If you’re wondering about me, for the most part, I have conquered my dream world. Thousands of times I have woken up within my dream, known it was a dream, stayed in there, changed things, kicked ass and took names, created beautiful scenarios, flown through the air at thousands of miles an hour, arranged three dozen beautiful dancers to dance a routine I thought up that I’ve never seen before in the physical world; whatever I feel like, as far and wide as I feel.

I got mad one time that the ground was a limit when the sky was not, because I could fly thru the sky anytime; I was still afraid of falling and hitting the ground (a fear left over from the physical plane – a fear many people have! – which has no place in the dream world). I got really mad and decided to jump off a cliff – but instead of falling, I flew straight down faster than falling – if I was going to die, I decided, I would go out in the most extreme way possible!  I flew straight into the ground – and through the ground!  I made big loops under ground, I could feel and smell the wet earth as I flew through it in huge arcs, jetting straight back into the air, looping and going back down into the earth again.  It felt really weird, I didn’t like it, but I did it – and from that moment on, I was no longer afraid of hitting the “ground” in the dream world. I had to re-do that experience a few times before I remembered never to be afraid of the ground in the dream world.

I have battled many enemies in the dream world – nothing can touch me anymore if I don’t want it to. Maybe 10% of my dreams involve something “scary”, but I gain strength as soon as I feel fear coming, and I control the fear, so it doesn’t envelop me and control me.  I face the enemy – and I vanquish it in any way I see fit.  Sometimes I yell at it and make it slink away. Other times I chop it with a giant sword in my hand that can cut thru anything, but my favorite thing is burning it with intensely hot fire.  Fire cannot hurt me in that world, but it can drive away everybody else if I need it to!

When I was a kid, not only did I have a lot of nightmares, but there was a period of a few weeks where I had night-terrors every night, which were horribly fearsome; I dreaded going to sleep at night because of them.  With night-terrors, you’re still trapped in the dream world even when your eyes are fully awake in the physical world. You see both simultaneously. At least that’s what I experienced. It was terrible. But that was 40+ years ago; all that has changed for me now. I would say that maybe once in two years or so I will have a nightmare where I get scared and actually sit up in bed, and realize it was all a dream – that it tricked me.  It really doesn’t happen that much anymore. If things get too scary in the dream world, that’s something else you can do – force yourself to wake up immediately. Basically, get the hell out of there any time you want to. I do that sometimes when I want to.

Combating Night Terrors

Night terrors, as I experienced them as a child, are when you wake up from a nightmare – and you’re still dreaming even while awake – you still see the fearsome scenes, just as real (or more real) than real-life! You flinch when something is coming right at you; it’s very scary for you and those around you in physical life. Then, after some time, they tend to go away, but it can take a half-hour or more, and it’s more terrifying to a child than anything the physical world has in it.

A good technique for combating night-terrors is with a bottle of pure eucalyptus oil. Open the bottle and take a deep smell of it, and the dream-connection will be severed. My dad figured this out. We had to do that a few nights in a row, then the night-terrors stopped.

To avoid nightmares and terrors at night, before going to bed, dab a small amount of eucalyptus oil on your finger and wipe it on the sheets of your bed where your spine will be; and maybe a little bit on the center of your pillow.  Not very much, because it’s pretty smelly.

What Is the Dream World?

The dream world is just the Astral Plane.  It’s not a high plane, and not a low plane either. It’s the plane above this physical world we live in. It’s just another place, a subtler, energy-driven place, completely separate but somehow parallel to our physical world. I think we are actually in it all the time, but our consciousness is not connected to it when we’re awake on the Physical plane. Some day there may be more cross-over between the two. But, that might get a little confusing, or even scary for people who have not conquered their dream world yet. I think it will happen for people when the time is right.

Control Your Emotions

Control your emotions in the dream world, and you control the dream world.  I do not mean “flatten” your emotions and never feel anything – quite the opposite! You will feel any and every emotion you want to, consciously, to the degree you want to, and stop them and change them anytime you want – all within your own control at all times.  You can put on a play, with your emotions; tell a story, if you want to.  That is how to succeed in the dream world. Actually, it’s a good way to succeed in the physical world, too.

The most powerful way to control your emotions is from one level above the emotional level – the mental level. Use your mind to control your emotions.  That’s why the above article is fairly intellectual, when the dream world is mostly about feeling.  You can master any given level of life by living and acting on the level above.  I encourage you to learn the levels within you and how to get around each level of this fascinating world we live in.

Pets have Dreams, Too

Our pets dream too, and by that I mean, they visit they Astral plane like you or I when they go to sleep. Not every time they sleep, just as we don’t every single time we sleep. But sometimes.

Just this morning my dog, Buddy, was sleeping on his favorite chair. We tried to discourage him from jumping on this chair, because it’s a recliner and it’s soft, but he insisted, and we gave up the battle over time.

He was sleeping there on his favorite recliner, and suddenly he started yipping, then barking in little short barks. I checked on him and his eyes were closed. He was dreaming a dream!  Probably some bad guy invading his territory, entering our yard! Chase the bad guy, go get him, boy!

Good Buddy, you keep on protecting your home and your family. I love you.

Talking to my Higher Self

I don’t talk directly with my higher consciousness very much, I should do that more. We have spoken before. One time I was proud about a lower mental bit of knowledge, like how to solve a logic problem or something, and I said, “I know how to do this mathematical thing! I can explain it if you want!” And my higher mind said, quizzically, “why would I ever want to do that? I have no need for that.”

This really surprised me and got me thinking. Higher mind thoughts are quite different from lower mind thoughts.  The problems they face are different; not the same as on this physical plane. Maybe I don’t even need to know how to do the thing I was proud of, but it’s fun for me, so I learned it and wanted to explain it.  It’s interesting how we sometimes make things harder than they actually have to be, in our physical world. Sometimes we do that because we don’t know any other way to life. Sometimes we do it just for fun. I don’t feel bad about it, but talking to my higher self gives me a fresh perspective, a “view from above”, an experience I don’t often have.

As a Pisces, the symbol of Pisces has a deep meaning for me – two fishes tied together by a cord. Connected.  Separate and independent, yet bound together. One fish is my higher self, and the other is my lower self. My lower self is the one I think of as “me” – my conscious self, with a body, emotions, and mind, awake and aware in this physical plane. My higher self is the subtle one, the watcher, aware and listening, encouraging and guiding without saying much.  My lower self sometimes falls asleep; my higher self stays awake.  My lower self is sometimes pulled in different directions by my bodies; my higher self sticks to a steady course, one-pointed. My higher self doesn’t judge me, but encourages me when I do the right thing, and discourages me when I do something bad and I know better. He knows what I know. I can’t deceive my self.

Sometimes the two fishes try to swim in opposite directions.  I don’t get very far when I do that. But what happens when I start to swim in the same direction as my higher self?  The more I do that, the more amazing my life becomes.  I’ve seen it first hand, I need to do that more. There are a lot of surprises in store for us, a higher and better and happier way of living, even in this physical world, when we follow our higher selves rather than the lower ones.

Pain and agony and separation and old-age come after the lower self. Serenity and freedom and community and agelessness come after the higher self.  Which fish do you want to follow?

The Different Planes – Terminology

By now you have questions – “what are the Astral and Mental planes? How do they relate to our world? What’s the difference?”  Or, maybe you already know about these things, and you’re wondering what I think they are, and how different my understanding is from yours. Let’s hope my descriptions fit in with what you already know well enough to be useful to you.  But if this is all new to you, welcome!

Different writers have used different names for these levels in different teachings, in different books. This knowledge is not widely distributed enough for everyone to have settled on a common set of terms yet.  But I’m sure that day is coming.

So, I decided to use the wording and concepts found in books I’ve learned the most from, generally called the “Ancient Wisdom”: the author Torkom Saraydarian; the Agni Yoga series; and other works such as those by Alice Bailey and others who have worked with these people during their lifetimes. I’m trying to use their common terms, but the dreams and many concepts I write about are from my own experience, not something I read in a book.

Physical Plane

The Physical Plane is the regular world we live in today – solid matter, the stuff all around us, including our human bodies.  Cars, houses, the ground underfoot, the air you breathe, paper, computers, all of these things exist in the Physical Plane. The physical Plane is sub-divided somewhat, as there are different types of matter (solid, liquid, gas, and 4 ethers), but that’s a topic for a different article.

The physical plane has a lot of rules; you can’t fly around the place; if you fall off a cliff, you could die. It’s possible to break your arm simply by slipping in mud! Because of this, we learn to be careful, and avoid situations and things that can hurt or kill us.  There’s lots of them.

We each have figured out actions to take, words to say, so that we can have a happy life, or at the very least a less-objectionable one, given our situation in the physical world. There’s a lot of shit-work we all have to do in our lives, things we don’t want to do but have to do.  We’re used to it and are getting pretty good at it by now. But there’s also fun things to do, places to explore, people to encounter, stories to read and movies to watch, to entertain us and stretch our imagination, all created on the Physical plane.

Astral / Emotional Plane

The Astral Plane is where your Astral or Emotional body lives.  (the terms Astral and Emotional are interchangeable here).  This plane, too, has 7 sub-levels, which I will talk about in later posts. The most important thing to understand is that your emotional body is separate from your physical body.  These two bodies are connected, of course – a feeling in one can affect the other; but they are completely separate bodies. One can be damaged without hurting the other; one can die before the other dies. An illness in one can reflect in the other, or not.

The dreams that most people experience come from the Astra plane. Nightmares come from the lower levels of the Astral plane. Self-serving dreams, crazy dreams that don’t make sense when you are awake, come from the Astral plane. If everybody you see in the dream act exactly as you always expect them to, that’s an Astral dream, and you created those people to say just those things in just that way. They aren’t real people, and you can do anything you want with this artificial construction, so have no fear.

All of the creations you see in most Astral dreams come from you – all the people, things, places, colors, smells, sounds – it’s all from your own consciousness. Sometimes we replay scenarios that are fearful for us, to work through the fear, or find a better way to handle a situation.

Astral dreams can feel “more real than real life!” There can be brighter colors, more powerful feelings. It’s the world of feeling-creations, including everything you can perceive in this fluid environment.

The most important thing to remember is: nothing in the Astral plane can hurt you.  The most fearsome monster with huge teeth cannot bite you! Or if he bites you, it doesn’t actually hurt you in any way. Maybe it tickles.  It can’t actually touch you, really, at all.  Go ahead and jump off that cliff you’re standing on the edge of, you can fly! Falling can’t hurt you!  In fact, you can fly through the ground – even the solid-looking earth is not an obstacle on the Astral plane. I know this because I’ve done all of these things many times.

The Astral plane is a way to face your fears and overcome them.  It’s a way to learn to control the situation all around you, and change it the way you want – neutralize the bad guy, turn a gun pointed at you into a flower, and dismiss everyone from your sight if you want.  You can replay it all you want, until you get it right.

If you have powerful emotions that control your waking life, these emotions often control your dreams. By conquering your jealousy, hatred, embarrassment, and other such feelings in the Physical world, you will begin to develop the ability to control your dreams.  You can literally create anything you want in the Astral plane, and experience it, and have fun with it – it is the worlds greatest sensory playground ever created. It takes practice to learn to control it.

If someone warns you about a horrendous danger to you in the near future, and it scares you – that is most likely an Astral dream with no merit or truth to it.  If that happens, you can certainly take it under advisement and keep alert and aware, but understand it’s most likely just an attempt to scare you.

After waking up from a night full of Astral dreams, you will likely feel drained of energy; or at least, the normal amount of sleepiness and morning heaviness that you feel when waking up in the morning.

Mental Plane

The Mental Plane is where your Mental Body lives.  It does not live in your “brain”, but in a field around your head. Religious paintings from the past often showed a representation of this with a “halo” encircling a spiritual person’s head.  Perhaps very spiritually high-level people have a visible halo like this around their head that everyone can see. Or maybe certain spiritually advanced people can see this part of the human aura on everyone they meet.  I don’t know, I have never seen anything like this myself, in this lifetime, but I know its there and have heard of people being able to see it.

People have a lower mind and a higher mind.  The lower mind is connected to your body through your brain.  The lower mind is where logic and reasoning are. “If this is true and that is true, then this other thing must be true,” your lower mind says.  It is 100% sure of itself, even though a lot of the time it’s wrong.  Have you caught yourself in that situation, assuming something that you’re absolutely certain is true, but then discovering you were wrong?  How does that happen?

The lower mind can only work with what it has seen in the past.  It calculates solutions, compares alternatives, then picks one as the “best”, based on its facts – whether it really is best, or not. The lower mind tends to be separative – me versus you – which is why people feel separate from each other. The lower mind comes up with “net zero” solutions, for example: for me to have more, you must have less – I take from you.  Or, if I give something to you, then I have lost something. This is old-fashioned thinking, and it’s wrong – but seems completely right to the lower mind. “There’s only so much _____ in the world”.

The higher mind is different.  Some people call it the Heart. The higher mind wants to bring people together. It finds solutions where everybody can win, nobody loses – it finds the “win-win scenarios”. Solutions where everybody benefits are harder to think up than ones where someone wins and someone loses.  But it’s totally worth it.  It’s the future of problem solving. It’s the core concept behind the idea of Mediation.  One example can be seen in nature: people inhale oxygen, exhale carbon-dioxide – and, trees and plants do exactly the opposite: inhale carbon-dioxide, and exhale oxygen! Nature automatically creates win-win scenarios.  You could even say that this is proof that nature is more advanced than the average human being.

The higher mind doesn’t need to store a lot of facts – it knows what’s right automatically. The higher mind can solve problems quickly, it just knows the answers.

A small child watching a bug on the ground – does he crush the bug violently, or does he help it walk to a new place and offer it a small leaf to eat? You can see which mind a child is naturally focused in by observing their behavior.

There is nothing wrong with having a lower mind – you need both lower and higher minds.  They’re simply different tools in your toolbox.

When you are dreaming and visiting the Mental plane at night, the people you see there are real, actual people – not fake constructions created by you (like on the Astral plane). You can ask them questions and learn new things – things you didn’t know before. Their answers to your questions may surprise you, and be deeper or more complex than you anticipated. If you say something a little off, they may react in a way you didn’t expect – maybe pull away from you, or go somewhere else.

Everything happens faster than you’re used to on the Mental plane – if you’re aware while visiting the Mental plane, you notice the higher speed, but somehow you’re able to keep up with everything since your Mental body is designed for it.  Conversations are faster and deeper – when words are spoken, you understand the meaning behind the words, in addition to hearing the words with your ear.  Misunderstandings cannot happen on the Mental plane, you hear everything the way the speaker intended it to be heard.

People don’t joke around and say painful things on the Mental plane. It’s just not done.  Everyone is friendly on the Mental plane, and happy to share knowledge with you.  If you sense someone is being sneaky, hiding things from you or backstabbing you, that is an Astral dream.

After waking up from a Lower Mental dream, you feel like you’ve solved some problems – it can feel good, but ordinary.  Your mind might feel tired at that point.

After waking up from a Higher Mental dream, you will feel like a million bucks! You feel refreshed from this kind of sleep, ready to face a new day, a new week of physical life – it feels like no problems in this physical world can be real problems, because you can always go back to a much greater place when you go to sleep again later.

There is no discrimination on the Higher Mental plane – you see people the way they are, and nobody cares what color / sex / shape / size anybody else is.  Your lower mind might be surprised to see the shape and color of some of the people you consider to be your close friends on the Higher Mental plane!

The greatest schools exist on the Higher Mental plane. The greatest scientific research is conducted there, and anybody interested is welcome to join in. Great teachers and great heroes can be found on the Higher Mental plane, they are a great inspiration to all who see them.

Your Bodies

These three bodies are called your Personality – physical, emotional, and mental.  These three were born at different times, and will pass away at different times.  Consider what a “birthday” is… isn’t it really just your physical body’s birthday? In the past, people have really focused only on the physical body.  This is why the science of Astrology is only partially accurate and useful today.  They ask you the exact time of your birth – but they’re talking about your physical body!  When was your Emotional body born?  How about your Mental body?  These are just as important as the Physical body birth to understand the full astrological picture of a single human being, but how can we discover these things?

You are not your physical body.  It may feel like it sometimes, but it’s not so.  Neither are you your emotional body.  Neither are you your mental body!  When you realize these things, some amazing life changes will occur for you.  You’ll realize that your bodies are under your care, they are your closest family members, and you have a responsibility, a duty, to take care of them, to feed them and love them, just as you would a child, or a pet – but even more so.  They are your greatest allies while they are alive, and you are living in them.

The proof that these bodies are separate from each other is that sometimes they want opposite things.  You really want to lose weight, but 5 minutes later you eat a giant bowl of ice cream!  Then you hate “yourself” for eating that ice cream – why did you do that?  Well, your body wanted ice cream, and your mind wanted to lose weight. Your mind was focused on the future, and your body was focused on right now. If they were a single body then there would be a single desire, a single view, a single need, with no conflict whatsoever!  The fact that there are conflicting behaviors and desires tells you there is some separation between them.

More and more people are discovering meditation as a way to calm their lower 3 bodies, integrate them together (rather than fighting against each other), at least for a few minutes of time – in order to “tune in” to the silence, the higher self, to the inner thoughts within themselves.  We all have higher thoughts which cannot be heard over the din of three conflicting bodies talking, thinking, arguing, worrying, making demands, taking actions, forgetting, remembering, etc.  It’s so important as a human being to calm all these bodies for a short while and just relax, calm, and listen. Silent, but aware. You can think about higher topics of beauty, justice, joy, freedom; about specific harmless things like flowers, trees; ponder why, what, how, they came to be; how their form is different than their purpose, and what the cause is behind all of that; etc.

Your bodies are like clothing that you put on.  It’s the clothing that people first notice when they see you. But you aren’t your clothing.  You can clean and fix your clothing, or leave it dirty and damaged.  You can take off your clothing, and, standing there naked, you are still you! Passing away is like removing your clothing.  And, you can put on new clothing – you can be born again as a baby with a fresh physical body, emotional body, and mental body, to live a new life, with new opportunities, new challenges, new people to meet, new things to do, new joys and happiness to experience.

Your bodies are not you – but they are your closest friends.  Love them. Take care of them. Train them, decorate them, show them off! Enjoy your life as long as you are still here.

Meditating quietly for 5 or 10 minutes a day is very powerful in letting the real you have some control over these bodies that sometimes misbehave. Meditation can “ground you”, enable you to stand above the problems life will throw at you today – rather than having it eat your lunch, you will be able to deal with unexpected issues with a fresh source of calmness and energy that you don’t normally experience.

All three of these bodies are less spiritually-advanced than you are.  You are the leader of your bodies.  You are more spiritual, and have greater connections to higher sources, than any of your bodies do.  Your bodies depend on you to guide them for happiness and health and success.  Someday each of your bodies will die – but the real you cannot die.  The real you has been around for a very very long time, and has had many bodies to work with throughout the eons of time.

I sometimes think of these three bodies as the Three Stooges.  Think about it!  Curly (the big bald guy) is the Physical body – very strong, but doesn’t think, and can hardly talk. Larry (the skinny curly-haired guy) is the Emotional Body – he’s scared of everything, and is usually the only one who sees the ghost or zombie; he runs away from every little threat.  Moe (short black haired guy) believes he is a genius – he’s the brains of the outfit, as they say, always figuring and calculating, talking the most, commanding everyone around.  He coming up with the plan that gets the three of them in trouble every single time.  The Three Stooges represent the worst aspects of the three bodies.  Maybe some day we’ll have a television show about three people who express the higher aspects of the three bodies of a “balanced, integrated human being”.  Now that would be a fascinating show.

An ancient philosopher once said: “I died as a stone, and was born as a flower. I died as a flower, and was born an animal. I died as an animal, and was born as a person.  When has dying ever been a bad thing for me?”

Higher Planes

There are many planes above these three lower ones.  The seven known planes of existence for us are, from high to low:

  1. Divine plane
  2. Monadic plane
  3. Atmic plane
  4. Intuitional/Buddhic plane
  5. Mental plane
  6. Emotional plane
  7. Physical plane

It’s not time to talk about those higher four levels yet, as 99.9% of the people in our world haven’t developed those bodies at all and aren’t conscious on those levels yet.  They are written about in various books, if you’re curious about them.  Probably only 0.1% of the people walking around our world have the ability to visit the Intuitional plane with their Intuitional or Buddic body. And, our universe doesn’t stop at that highest plane on the list, the Divine plane, either – but that’s way out of my area of knowledge.

There are different beings who live at each of these different levels, and many of them can move around and communicate between levels above/below where they naturally live. They are human beings, just like us, only a bit more spiritually advanced – they have more subtle bodies than we do.  It’s a shame that we can’t directly see them or sense them during our waking consciousness, because it would sure be nice to “see with our own eyes” that these things are real. You can sense they are real, and you can dream about them and meet with them.  Maybe you already do.  I will share with you many, many dreams I’ve had about these things. I’ve had enough experiences now to prove it’s real to me.  I sincerely hope that you will have these kind of experiences yourself in the future.

An Apology

I apologize for deviating a bit away from my main goal of taking about dreams, the dream world, and telling my stories of experiences while dreaming.  That is what my blog is really about. But I felt it important to lay some ground work, so you will more deeply understand the things I describe without misunderstanding me too much. I want you to understand. I am not here to “impress you”, I’m here more to entertain you and lead you to the next level of understanding in something that you already find fascinating – the different levels of the world we’ve somehow found ourselves to exist in.

Physical World Training Ground

There are many ways that the Physical World is a training ground, a school, for people living on various levels above the Physical Plane. One way is to prepare those people to do new work and participate in new activities on the Astral and Mental worlds.

For example, suppose you learn something new right here on the Physical Plane – something you never understood before, for example: how motors work, or a software application, a programming language, or a math formula. Even if you never use that knowledge in the physical world, you just might use it on higher levels – it’s immediately available to you there. This gives you the ability to do things you never could do before, up there. Maybe you can travel to new places on the Higher Mental plane now; meet people who are also experts in the same field; make plans to use the technology and improve it in the future; talk to great planners about the next generation of the technology, better than you had learned or even imagined; etc. It’s not possible for you to see these people and do these things if you have no mental foundation in that area.

The places you go and the work you do on the higher levels are limited to your knowledge and abilities; you don’t generally go to places that you don’t understand, places you can’t help or participate in.  If something is not part of your consciousness, then you aren’t drawn to those places.  The groundwork of experience and skill in an area must be built in you already, for you to be there on the higher planes.  So you can prepare on the physical plane for different experiences on the higher planes.

I have experienced first-hand times where I learned something new on the physical plane, then visited new places and saw new people on the higher-mental plane because of it. One time I learned so much about how the financial world works in the United States of America in a short amount of time (3-4 days), that I tuned in to the “next generation” of finance for our world one night when I went to sleep! I will have to blog about that some day, I think about it from time to time. I worked so hard in understanding what we have on the Physical plane today, and seeing the huge hole in the system that was revealed to every one with the recent world-wide financial downturn, feeling the pain of so many people affected by it, and knowing that nobody in our Physical world can fix it easily; it struck me that great minds must be figuring out what is the new RIGHT way how money should work to make sure these problems never happen again. It doesn’t make sense that value (money) can just “disappear” overnight.  That shouldn’t be possible; value should never be destroyed. I’m happy to say that the solution is coming, it just takes time.

You can attend classes on Higher Mental plane similar to a classroom on Physical Earth today.  Sometimes it looks like a teacher teaching at the front of the classroom, to help a class full of students learn new things up there.  But the basic groundwork for the training must somehow be built first on the Physical plane, from what I have seen. Students can also teach individual topics they are aware of to a class sometimes, when it is clear they have knowledge of something the others want to learn and don’t know yet.

Late to Class, I Agreed to Teach HTML

I remember one time when I was first learning HTML in our world – web sites were just starting to be popular, and people were trying to figure out what markup languages are.  I had printed a document explaining all of the basic HTML tags, what they are, how they work, and began playing around with my own very basic HTML files on my computer, and letting the web-browser display them to see what happened.  It was more exciting to me than you would ordinarily expect.  I think I stayed up a bit too late that night before going to sleep.  After I fell asleep I had a dream where I was late to a class I was supposed to be attending on the Higher Mental plane. This wasn’t the usual Astral “I can’t find my classroom, everything looks different, and I’m in my underwear!” type of dream. No, this was a lot more real than that.

I was immediately walking thru the door to the classroom, and all the other students were already seated, the teacher was standing in front of the display board saying something. He stopped speaking and looked at me when I came in.  The teacher was not happy that I was late. Oh no, I thought, this isn’t good, I hate being late.  He walked immediately to me and said, “You are late. What are you going to do for everyone in this class to make up for it?” in a very stern and commanding voice (unlike any teacher I’ve ever experienced in the Physical plane.) I knew he was right; I owe the whole class something valuable by not being there on time.  I immediately answered, “I will teach everyone in this class HTML,” meaning: HTML as it works on the Physical Plane, and immediately some students exclaimed things like “all right!” They knew that I was in connection with the Physical plane (some of them were not currently), they don’t often get to see or hear what’s going on down there.  They knew the concept of HTML, that it was a future technology being built on the Physical Plane, that it was the cutting-edge part of the Physical Internet.  I was actually surprised at what a positive reaction I got; I hadn’t expected it. Everyone seems to think HTML is more valuable than I thought it was initially, both here and on the Physical plane.

Once I woke up, I remember thinking: that’s odd, I don’t feel like I’ve mastered HTML yet, I can’t remember half of what I read; I’m going to have to play with this a LOT more to be ready to teach anything to anyone.  But in retrospect, I don’t think that’s an issue. Nothing you read is ever lost, even if your physical-brain can’t retain it for one reason or another.  I usually have to read something 2-3 times and play with it before I believe it, before I have it memorized, before I understand it. I think on the higher levels I grok it after only reading it one time.  I was going to master HTML eventually on the Physical plane, soon after that, actually; perhaps immediate future results on the Physical plane are predictable and known on the Higher Mental plane? That’s what I’m thinking now.

The Higher Mental plane often has much better versions of things we have on the Physical plane, such as the Internet, communications, math, science; but, the groundwork has to be created somehow on the physical plane first for it to be used up there, I believe.  But why should the Higher Mental Plane be throttled, in a sense, by the Physical Plane?  I’m not sure about that… there is some mystery here that needs to be researched.

To Physically Meet Someone from the Higher Worlds

One of my many goals in this lifetime is to physically meet someone, in our physical world, that I have already met and talked to in the Higher Worlds.  I have a lot of friends in the Astral and Mental levels. A lot more than I have down here on the Physical Plane.  I talk to them all the time when I go to sleep at night.  I remember maybe 1% of the conversations I have.  And that 1% astounds me, encourages me, and inspires me.

The ultimate proof that the Higher Worlds are real would be to actually meet, in person, somebody I’ve chatted with up there.  Somebody I’ve played games with up there.  Somebody I work with up there.  A scientist, a virtual-reality game expert, a deeply connected person, anybody who is a friend of mine that I remember talking to. This means they would need to remember, down here, talking to me up there as well.  And they’d have to stumble over my blog and realize it sounds familiar; realize that they might know me from somewhere.

Slim chance, maybe, but I’m sure it will happen sooner or later.

I look forward to meeting you some day, friends from up there.

Side Scrolling Virtual Reality game on the Astral Plane

In late January I had a dream that I now remember having had many times (though I didn’t remember it until now).  It’s a giant virtual-reality game where the beginning of the game looks like a giant 2-D side-scrolling multi-level system from the distance, like something from Super Mario or more modern game like Terarria or Spelunky and others like them – only way cooler.  The side-scrolling level looks like a vertical face of caves and indentations made out of brown stone of some sort, non-repeating patterns of large and small caves and surfaces, areas to climb, floors jutting out a bit to stand on, ladder-like cutouts in the stone in certain places for climbing, handholds you can reach, and handholds I cannot reach. Each section you visit is a level – I can play an entire game within that level, by walking into the cave that’s right in that section.  Once I’ve completed that level, I come back out of the cave and stand at this same location within this rock-face I was at when I started the level.  If I didn’t win the level, everything looks the same at this point. But once I win the level, something will have changed on this outer face – a change has been made that enables me to climb to a higher point on the rock-face, to visit a new level I couldn’t reach before!  For example maybe a ladder appears, or a walkway to get across a chasm; a rope to swing across to the next level over; etc.  I can even get bonuses on higher levels that grant me abilities like jumping higher than normal (to get to hard-to-reach levels), or give me tools for climbing where there are no handholds, etc.

The thing is, from a distance it may look like a 2-D side-scroller, but in reality it’s fully 3-D and life-size!  When I approached the first level, I saw it the way you would see a rock-cave in real life – in 3 dimensions, with all of the intricate stone detail that you can touch, stand on, sit on, and move around.  It’s fully life-size and 100% realistic. It feels to me like living inside the coolest arcade game, except it doesn’t “feel” like a game – as a player I just happen to know it is a game! And, as a player, I automatically know how the game works; what is expected of me. There are no instructions to read, no way to be confused about the “intent” of this scenario.  I can leave at any time; but I didn’t want to, I wanted to play the game.

The game starts in the lower-left end of the rock face.  The rock face is at least 50 feet tall; I couldn’t see the top of it past 3 levels above me or so.  And it stretches hundreds of feet to the right; I couldn’t see all the way to the end without walking a lot further to the right, at ground-level.  You can easily move to the right along the bottom by simply walking. Ground level is where all the easy levels are.  More experienced players climb higher where the fun challenges are.  You can spend a lot of time just playing a single level, it may take you many nights of visiting and playing to clear a hard level!  So, this entire game can last for months or even years of exciting play.

This game is multi-player – I could see other players moving, climbing, dropping down, swinging in the distance and above me at any given time. I look up and see one player that is standing 2 levels above me – he jumps 3 times higher than I can jump to get to some level I can’t see from here at all; fascinating. There seemed to be a kind of unspoken agreement that each level is single-player with this game, and that others who see you standing in front of a level will leave you alone with that level, and give you the freedom to move to levels nearby. Nobody was running past me or bumping me; climbing in front of me; etc.  That would be impolite.  They gave me space to play. Each player has dozens of levels they were ready for, but which they had not yet cleared; each person evidently would go to a level that was unoccupied and play with it as long as they wanted; go back to the starting rock-face whenever they wanted; and so forth. It was kind of nice, it felt like a community, but I could also do my own thing knowing that friends were not far away.

I have only played this particular dream-game on 10 or 20 nights, or so, spread out over at least a year of time.  (I don’t remember each occurrence; I just have a memory that this is how much I’ve played it so far).  Sometimes I’d play it 2-3 nights in a row, other times a month or two would go by before I returned to it. I play it when I want to and ignore it when I want to. Because I haven’t played it very much (compared to other people I know!) I haven’t solved more than a dozen of the hundreds of unique and interesting levels. But I recall hearing 2 friends of mine talking about this game, on this occasion; I knew that each had won more levels than I have. I ask them about certain specific levels I’m having difficulty with.  As they describe something that will help me clear the level, I can see them playing the level – I am viewing it outside and from afar, and I can sort of distant-experience levels I know I haven’t gotten to yet, through them.

My Interpretation

This is an actual game that exists on the Higher Astral plane, and thousands of people have played it beside me.  I believe it’s “open” all around the clock, because on Earth at any given time, somebody in some time-zone is sleeping.  There are always people who might want to stumble on a fun, entertaining game like this, and many do.  And then again, this kind of game is not fun for many other people – there are plenty of other things to do on the Higher Astral plane to entertain them.  There are chat-rooms with real furniture and entertaining surroundings, and windows open to beautiful scenery outside; people come to these rooms to congregate, to talk to each other, tell stories and hang out with friends. I’ve seen many of them in my time, of different sorts in different places.

You need to understand something: the Astral plane is just as real as the Physical plane where you are while reading this blog article.  That virtual-reality game is just as real as you or me.  It is a real place that exists whether you or I visit it or not.  Some people from the Physical Plane cannot visit there yet, they haven’t prepared themselves to travel in the Astral plane. They haven’t learned to use their Astral body yet, or maybe they can use it but haven’t purified themselves enough to visit the Higher portion of the Astral Plane yet. Another possibility is that they visit this place as much as I do, but simply don’t remember it once they are awake.  Some people have a hard time remembering their dreams.  I am so lucky that I have apparently done the right things in the past, that I get to visit these levels and remember them once I am awake on the Physical Plane.

Astral Plane games like this one were created by a consciousness who contributes energy to keep it going. They are probably a regular person like you or me.  They have a lot of energy to maintain such a complex, detailed construction like this, with all its facets and intricate detail. I believe the energy of the players contributes somewhat to maintaining a game-world like this, but the continuity of the game, which is consistent day after day, month after month, is thanks to the creator and maintainer of the game-world. I believe the creator can look at the game and within the game while it’s operating, and probably derives great enjoyment from seeing all the people having a good time climbing around, solving puzzles, hanging out in their favorite parts, chatting with their friends about it, telling stories about their experiences in the game, and so forth.  It would feel like creating something cool that your friends really enjoy. It would feel like giving back to society, as a thank-you to all the fun things you’ve experienced that other people have created.  It would feel a lot like the driving force behind Open Source Software in our physical world. It would feel a lot like freedom and relaxation and fun.

The Astral Plane is the true Virtual Reality.  It is 100% what everyone wishes Virtual Reality really was.  It’s already there – it already exists, and you can experience it any time you want to.  You only need to learn how to use your Astral body by gaining control over your fears, especially in this dream-world; practice controlling the world around you; and purifying your heart so that you can visit the higher portions of the Astral plane.  I will talk more about all of this in future posts.

I did not create this particular game.  If I had, I would probably know all of the levels.  This is a game somebody else created, and I’ve enjoyed playing it upon occasion.  I don’t think I personally have enough psychic energy to build and maintain such a large construction as this game.  But I know that I have created interesting constructions on the Astral plane before.  One time when I was waking up in the morning while visiting my parents in Sedona, Arizona on the weekend, I was just regaining consciousness around 7AM when I heard a voice in my ear, even though nobody else was in the room with me.  You know that feeling where you’ve just woken up, you’re still groggy and haven’t opened your eyes yet, but you know you’re somewhat awake now and should probably yawn or stretch or something, but you don’t want to, yet?  In that moment, I heard this little girl’s voice, she was maybe 4-5 years old. She said, “I want to build a world, can we build a world now?” I mentally thought back to her “no, I have to go, I have to wake up now.” And then her reply, even louder in my ear than before (like somebody talking full-volume right in front of my left ear): “awwwww, pleeeeeeeeseee?”  And then I opened my eyes.  Nobody was in the room. My connection to the Astral world was gone again, to begin the new day.

But back to the side-scrolling virtual-reality game.  I visited this game in late January 2014, and remembered it during waking consciousness at dinner-time 2 days later. It’s funny how that happens. I feel so familiar with the game, but I didn’t remember until then, which was the first time I remembered it while awake.  I went to my bedroom and got out my dream journal and wrote down as much as I could remember about the game, my friends, what it felt like, and so forth, so I could write this blog article.

Have you experienced dreams of playing this exact game before, while you were sleeping? Do you remember how many levels you have cleared?  I’d love to hear from you, please post a comment.
